U.K. staycationers still need travel insurance | Hirecars News

New research by the U.K.’s Post Office Travel Insurance has revealed that many of the people who are deciding to holiday in the U.K. as part of the staycation trend that has hit since the economy got into trouble, should make sure that they are adequately covered by insurance.

Head of Post Office Travel Insurance, Rachael Croft points out that even if we are not intending to leave the country for our holidays it is still important to be fully covered. She said that those staying in the U.K. often think that they are covered by home insurance. Apparently this is not the case if you suffer holiday cancellations. Croft says that claims for holiday cancellations far outweigh any other claim so it is important that travelers find out exactly what they are and what they aren’t covered for before leaving home. Croft also says that it is dangerous to become complacent when holidaying in the U.K. and that the same dangers face travelers her as they do abroad. Lost or stolen belongings, accidents and having to travel home early all happen in the U.K. too. The average cost of a claim with Post Office Travel Insurance was £645 this year so anyone without proper insurance could find their holiday spoiled somewhat.

The Post Office has also warned people to be careful about travelling on the free travel insurance that comes with credit cards. Many of these policies will only cover limited medical bills and do not cover the customer before they arrive at their destination meaning that cancellations and lost luggage will not be insured against.
